What is DRUZY ?
In geology, Druzy refers to a coating of fine crystals on a rock’s fracture surface (usually a cavity) such as those found inside geodes or in larger pockets of mineral deposits. And whilst geologists have long known and studied these crystals (naturally occurring and mostly found and sourced in Thailand, China, India, and Brazil) it has only been in the past decade that jewellery designers have discovered the beauty and versatility of Druzy and found applications for these precious crystals.
And the appeal of druzy material is easy to understand. With a multitude of fine, sugar-like tiny crystals, a druzy possess a reflective surface with a hardness ratio of 6. The very raw nature of these crystals results in a truly unique and exquisite effect; each stone has its own natural characteristics reflected in its colour, size & shape, and imperfections add to the beauty and uniqueness of piece which means each piece is literally one of a kind.
What colours does DRUZY come in?
Druzy comes in such a broad range of colours, there is literally one for every taste. Whilst Druzy is most usually made up of lucid, quartz crystals and is typically found in muted colours such either grey or blue, it can also naturally occur in brown, red, yellow, and orange. Most druzy gems, even those with vivid colours like hot pink (cobalt-calcite), day-glow green (uvarovite), or multi-coloured (rainbow pyrite ), are naturally occurring. To complete the colour spectrum, some quartz pieces may be dyed black or other colours, and may even be coated with titanium or other metallic vapour to create various iridescent finishes.
Does DRUZY have more benefits beyond aethetics?
Many believe Druzys are much more than just precious crystals. They are considered to endorse strength and promote fresh ideas to guide and individual’s growth. It is thought that Druzy helps calm wearers, reducing anxiety levels. Often referred to as “Heaven’s Gemstone”, Druzys are also connected to harmony, patience, and optimistic love.
But whether you choose to wear Druzy for its sparkling beauty or for its intentional properties, the one unifying, undeniable fact is that Druzys are a stunning and essential gift of nature.
